Yao scores four as Eastern Wayne rolls past West Craven, 10-1

GOLDSBORO - Eastern Wayne wasted little time turning Tuesday night into an offensive showcase.
The Warriors erupted for a season-high 10 goals in a 10-1 conference victory over West Craven, improving to 7-4 overall and continuing a productive stretch for an Eastern Wayne attack that has shown it can score in bunches.
Senior Christ Yao led the charge with four goals, finishing with eight shots and eight points. The four-goal performance highlighted a night when Eastern Wayne consistently generated chances and overwhelmed the West Craven defense.
Junior K. Martinz added a goal and three assists, contributing to four of Eastern Wayne’s scores. Junior A. Villamizar finished with a goal and an assist, while sophomore J. Leighton and junior Ezekiel Roberson each added a goal. Roberson also recorded an assist and finished with six shots.
The available individual statistics account for eight of Eastern Wayne’s 10 goals, with the Warriors finishing the match with 22 total shots.
Eastern Wayne was just as steady on the other end.
Sophomore goalkeeper J. Thompson made 12 saves while allowing only one goal and picked up the win.
The performance continued what has been an explosive season offensively for the Warriors. Eastern Wayne has already posted victories of 9-2 over Ayden-Grifton, 9-0 over Ayden-Grifton, 7-1 over Southwest Edgecombe and now 10-1 over West Craven.
It was also an important response after Eastern Wayne had experienced mixed results through the opening portion of conference play. The Warriors entered Tuesday at 3-3 in league competition and made sure there was little doubt about the outcome against West Craven.
Eastern Wayne will have a quick turnaround with North Johnston coming to Goldsboro on Thursday, Oct. 8. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The Warriors lost the first meeting with North Johnston 3-0 on Sept. 15, giving Eastern Wayne an opportunity to measure just how far it has progressed since that early-season matchup.
