Johnson accounts for five touchdowns as Northern Nash beats Southern Wayne

ROCKY MOUNT — Jaice Johnson threw four touchdown passes and ran for another score as Northern Nash defeated Southern Wayne 62-0 on Friday, Oct. 9.

The Knights scored 28 points in the first quarter and led 48-0 at halftime. They added 14 points in the third quarter to finish the scoring, improving to 5-2 overall. Southern Wayne fell to 3-5 and 0-4 in the Big East 5A/6A Conference.

Johnson completed all four of his passes for 108 yards, with each completion producing a touchdown. He also scored on his only rushing attempt, a 23-yard run, and finished with 131 yards passing and rushing.

Myles Eatmon led Northern Nash on the ground with 153 yards and two touchdowns on four carries. Preston McDaniel added 77 yards and a touchdown on four attempts. Together, Eatmon and McDaniel accounted for 230 of the Knights’ 327 rushing yards.

Northern Nash finished with 435 yards of offense. Kamren Freeman caught a 35-yard touchdown pass, while Holton Westbrook recorded eight tackles and two of the Knights’ three sacks.

For Southern Wayne, Yakir Williams completed one of two passes for 8 yards, with Jaquez Lewis making the reception.

Southern Wayne has two regular-season games remaining. The Saints travel to Fike on Friday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m., then host C.B. Aycock on Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. Both are conference games.

The Oct. 10 projected bracket places Southern Wayne at No. 21 in the 5A East, paired with St. Pauls in the first round. That projection is unofficial; the Saints have not clinched a seed or matchup.
