Southside defeats Jones Senior, 46-6

CHOCOWINITY - Jones Senior was within a point after the first quarter, but Southside scored 33 points over the next two periods to build its lead in a 46-6 Coastal Plains 1A/2A Conference victory Friday, Oct. 9.
Logan Murphy connected with Brady Woolard for Jones Senior’s first-quarter touchdown, and the Trojans entered the second period trailing 7-6.
Southside added 14 points in the second quarter while keeping Jones Senior off the scoreboard, taking a 21-6 lead into halftime. The Seahawks followed with 19 points in the third to extend the margin to 40-6, then added six in the fourth.
The victory was Southside’s third straight and improved the Seahawks to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Jones Senior is 0-7 and 0-2.
Murphy completed eight of 26 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown. Woolard finished with three catches for 30 yards, while Koby Cox led the Trojans with 46 receiving yards on two catches. Isaiah Meadows caught two passes for 27 yards, and Ashton Johnson added a 13-yard reception.
Jones Senior finished with 120 yards of offense. Amare Williams rushed for 30 yards on seven carries, but the team’s net rushing total was four yards. The Trojans threw four interceptions and lost one fumble.
Meadows contributed five tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack. Murphy and Johnson each had seven tackles, while Johnson and Cole Anderson recovered one Southside fumble apiece. Ja’Khari Harris added five tackles.
Woolard also returned a kickoff 37 yards, and Chris Frame averaged 26 yards on three punts.
Jones Senior hosts Lejeune at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16. The Trojans then host East Carteret on Oct. 23 and visit Northside-Pinetown on Oct. 30.
