Wingmen fall late to the Skippers

The Kinston Wingmen suffered a late-inning defeat on Wednesday, losing 5-4 to the River City Skippers. Despite out-hitting the Skippers seven to four, the Wingmen couldn’t hold onto their lead, with the game slipping away in the top of the ninth inning.

The game was tied at four when the Skippers’ Nagel doubled on a 3-2 count, scoring the decisive run. This late-game twist marked a disappointing end for the Wingmen, who had taken an early lead in the second inning when Dawson Ables drove in two runs with a single.

The Skippers managed to tie the game at four in the top of the seventh inning, when Wagner drew a walk, scoring one run.

Matthew Lovitt was the starting pitcher for the Skippers, allowing five hits and four runs over four innings, striking out two and walking one.

On the mound for the Wingmen was Fisher Harrison, who allowed zero hits and two runs over three innings, striking out three. The bullpen also saw action, with Tanner Flowers, Josh Swartz, Colby Gardner, and Landon Smith each taking turns on the mound.

Travis Gamache led the Wingmen’s offense with two hits in four at-bats.

The loss brings the Wingmen’s record to 4-4, following a four-game losing streak. Despite the recent losses, the team remains optimistic, drawing on the strength of their roster.
