In a surprising turn of events, the North Lenoir Varsity Hawks fell 7-2 to a lower-seeded team in the third round of the playoffs on Tuesday. The Hawks held a slim 2-1 lead until the top of the seventh inning when their opponents scored a decisive triple, driving in three runs. Despite the loss, the Hawks out-hit their opponents, achieving ten hits to their five. Two Hawks players led the team’s offensive effort with three hits each. North Lenoir’s defense remained error-free throughout the game. The loss ends the playoff run for the fourth-seeded Hawks, underlining the unpredictability of the postseason.

North Lenoir is graduating 11 seniors and they will be greatly missed.

“All four years they were huge, not just this year but all four years they have given to us. We have so much that these young guys behind me have to look forward to, and I am just so proud of them. They came to work every day, and they did their job. You can’t ask a whole lot more out of them. I don’t look at this as a failure; we just came up a little short.” coach Jackson Massey said.

South Granville 10 South Lenoir 4

The South Lenoir Blue Devils baseball season has drawn to a close with a 10-4 loss in the third round of the playoffs. The Blue Devils put up a strong fight, pushing the #3 seeded South Granville Vikings to their limits. South Lenoir started the game on a promising note, jumping out to an early lead before the Vikings managed to pull even.

The game remained in a 3-3 deadlock until the fifth inning, when the Vikings staged an impressive offensive surge, scoring five runs. Despite their best efforts, South Lenoir was unable to fully recover from this blow. They fought valiantly, attempting to claw back into the game, but the comeback proved too little, too late.

Reflecting on the season and the game, the South Lenoir Head Coach expressed immense pride in his team, despite the loss. “Yes, we might have lost tonight, but I’m so proud of these boys. They played so hard this year.” Their resilience and commitment to the game were evident throughout the season, and they surely have much to be proud of, even in the face of defeat
