South Lenoir Dominates Ayden-Grifton in 10-1 Win

AYDEN, N.C. — While the 10-1 scoreline might suggest otherwise, the highlight of today’s South Lenoir at Ayden-Grifton soccer match was the exceptional goaltending from both teams. A much-improved Ayden-Grifton squad didn’t concede easily, as their goalie, Aron Ascencio, made a series of acrobatic saves. South Lenoir capitalized twice when Ascencio was sidelined for several minutes in both halves.
Ayden-Grifton had multiple scoring opportunities, but South Lenoir’s goalie, Leonardo Espinoza, consistently thwarted them. Espinoza conceded just one goal to AG’s Jerry Jacobo at the start of the second half. South Lenoir’s goals were scored by Michael Chavez (3), Yeshua Perez (3), Brandon Ortiz (2), Bryant Navarro (1), and Ulises Calixtro (1). Ortiz, Perez, and Emilio Salanes each contributed an assist.
“Any win is a good win, but we need to be more consistent before conference play begins,” said South Lenoir coach Jody Turner after the game.
With the win, South Lenoir improves to 5-0 and will travel to Princeton on Thursday.
