The Kinston-Lenoir County Sports Hall of Fame will be inducting its eighth class on Friday, Aug. 15, and the steering committee is asking the community for nominations for the Class of 2025.
The Hall is housed at the Kinston Community Center and includes stalwarts such as Jerry Stackhouse, Paul Jones, Bill Grice, and Frank Mock (inaugural Class of 2004); George Whitfield, Amos Sexton, and Bobby Davis (2007); Jimmy Smith, Tommy Mattocks, and Bill Rowe (2010); Coley Little, Hugh Pollock, and Wayne Floyd (2012); Ronnie Battle, Bobby Dawson, Ted Gaskins, and Bill Fay (2014); Skeet Davis, Carl Long, and Fran Allison (2019); and Bill Ellis, Craig Hill, Chris Hatcher, Charles Shackleford, and Wells Gulledge (2023).
The Hall also includes full teams, such as the 1952 Adkin High state championship football team and the 1955 Grainger High state championship football team (Class of 2010); the 2005 North Lenoir baseball and softball state championship teams, along with the 1990 Parrott Academy state championship team (2014); and the 2004 Lenoir Community College NJCAA World Series team (2019).
You can see all 70 inductees and the 20 teams enshrined in the KLCSHOF by visiting the Hall at the Kinston Community Center, 2602 W. Vernon Ave., or by visiting the Hall’s website.
Nominations for this year’s class are being accepted now through Monday, March 10, by picking up and filling out a form at the KCC or by inboxing Neuse News Sports on Facebook or Kinston Lenoir Rec on Facebook.
“We are very proud of the Hall and are appreciative of the support we’ve received from the community through the first 21 years of its existence,” said Kinston-Lenoir County Parks and Recreation Director Scott Alston, who is also the Hall’s chairperson. “We are excited about inducting the Class of 2025 and can’t wait to see the nominations from the community.”
