South Lenoir's Emily Gonzalez Signs to University of Mount Olive

Deep Run, NC — South Lenoir High School's standout senior soccer player Emily Gonzalez has officially signed to continue her athletic and academic journey at the University of Mount Olive. Gonzalez made a significant impact on the Blue Devils’ women's soccer team, showcasing her skill, determination, and leadership throughout her high school career.

The only player to feature in all 18 games this past season, Gonzalez led South Lenoir in goals, assists, and total points. She recorded 20 goals, averaging 1.1 per game, while also dishing out 8 assists, amassing a total of 48 points for the season. Her impressive offensive output and consistent performances were instrumental in guiding the Blue Devils and establishing her as a leading talent.

Reflecting on her decision to play at Mount Olive, Gonzalez expressed gratitude for her support system. "I'm really excited to play at the next level in college," she said. "I have to thank my parents and especially God because He has helped me along the way, and my coaches, who have also guided me through soccer."

Gonzalez has dreamed of playing collegiate soccer since she was seven. She recalls passing by Mount Olive with her father and initially doubting she would play there. However, her father's encouragement planted a seed that has now blossomed. "One day, my dad told me that I would come here to play, and I didn't believe it. But now, I'm going to Mount Olive to fulfill my dream and his."

With plans to major in athletic training and exercise science, Gonzalez remains focused on her future both on and off the field. "Thank you to all the people who have supported me throughout my journey," she added.

Gonzalez's dedication to soccer and her unwavering spirit will serve her well at the collegiate level. The South Lenoir community will continue to support her as she transitions to the University of Mount Olive, where she aims to make her mark both as a student and an athlete.
