Lady Blue Devils Rally From Behind to Defeat Dixon
DEEP RUN— South Lenoir (1-2) secured their first win of the season in a thrilling home match against Dixon (1-4) on Wednesday, rallying from a 2-1 set deficit to clinch the victory in five sets.
The Blue Devils, who had dropped their first two matches of the season to Swansboro (3-0), found their stride thanks to standout performances from senior Gracie Tyndall and sophomore Reese Cash. Tyndall made her season debut after recovering from a sprained ankle suffered during a preseason scrimmage, and her presence on the court was immediately felt.
Coach Madison Harvey praised her team's resilience and the impact of Tyndall's return. "They played great today," Harvey said. "I've been saying all year our defense has been solid, and we finally got some good swings on the ball, and it paid off."
Harvey noted the significant difference Tyndall's return made, particularly in the lineup adjustments it allowed. "We struggled offensively without her, and we did what we could," Harvey said. "Getting to move Reese outside was helpful because she’s more comfortable there. She put a ton of swings on the ball, and when you have them two up there as aggressive and dominant as they are, it makes the others around them better too."
Tyndall and Cash were pivotal at the net, with both players delivering crucial plays that kept South Lenoir in contention throughout the match. Their combined effort ultimately pushed the Blue Devils over the top in the decisive fifth set, sealing a hard-fought win.
South Lenoir will look to build on this momentum when they face Richlands at home today.
