Rams Late Surge not Enough, Fall to Rampants 3-2

Rams Late Surge not Enough, Fall to Rampants 3-2

The Greene Central Rams lost a close match 3-2 against the J.H. Rose Rampants on Wednesday, August 21. The match saw two teams that finished in the final four the previous year in the 2A and 3A NCHSAA Soccer Championships.

“Tough game, hard-fought the whole 80 minutes we had our chances they had theirs,” said Head Coach Jacob Baird. “Had some untimely fouls but that’s just the way it is.”

The Rams and Rampants were having a defensive first half, but this all changed for the Rams after costly fouls led to the Rampants scoring two goals to go into the second half up two.

“The resilience to come back and score two goals in the second half to bring it back to a closer game,” Baird said about his team’s surge in the second half of this game.

The Rampants would score another goal to start the second half putting them up three early in the second. The Rams would start to find their groove in the middle of the half after Josh Osorio put them on the board.

With 17 minutes to go the Rampants would get their first red card of the game and leave them without their captain. Adrian Acevedo would capitalize, scoring the penalty kick and cutting the lead to just one goal.

“It’s awesome, just the whole atmosphere, the fans out here, and the competition is great,” Baird said about playing the Rampants.

The atmosphere was alive as the game was coming to an end, and the Rams looking for the game-tying goal. Unfortunately, they just couldn’t find it and would fall to the Rampants by just one goal.

“Take it as a learning experience, we have had two very tough opponents,” said Biard. “Look at the positives, look at the good things but also look at things we can work on moving forward.”

The Rams now fall to 0-2 on the young season and look to bounce back next Monday, August 26 against the Tarboro Vikings and get their first win this season.
