Ross and Wilson lead the Vikings to a 12-5 Victory over Spring Creek

SEVEN SPRINGS– The streak is over. Kinston snapped a 20-game losing streak by defeating Spring Creek 12-5 in Seven Springs. The Vikings have a team full of underclassmen and inexperienced players that have endured tough losses while trying to develop and learn. However, none of that mattered to Derrian Wilson when he approached plate or on the mound.

"I’m proud of the effort the guys gave tonight," coach Andrew McLeod said. "We were competitive from the first pitch until the last. Our guys are improving every day. There are bright things in our future."

Kinston's Qurron Ross took to the mound as the starting pitcher and delivered an impressive performance. Ross pitched six solid innings, effectively keeping Spring Creek batters at bay. Due to pitch count limitations, Ross had to leave the game in the bottom of the seventh inning.

"He was lights out," coach McLeoud said of Ross.

Wilson took over from Ross. However, Wilson had to come into the game and face the loaded bases with only one out. To put even more pressure on the situation, the Vikings were ahead and in good position to win their first game of the season.

"I just wanted to come through for the team," Wilson said. "I felt a little pressure with the bases loaded and needing two outs, but somehow I managed to stay calm."

That is exactly what Wilson did. He came in and took care of business to give the Vikings their 12-5 win over Spring Creek. Wilson also had a great day at the plate, going 2-4, driving in five runs, and was hit by a pitch.

"I feel like I had a great day at the plate this game compared to my last few games, honestly,’ Wilson said.

Kinston will try to build on their win and will play Wallace Rose-Hill this coming Tuesday, April 4th, in Teachey, North Carolina.
