Greene Central came into the contest against Southwest Edgecombe on a three-game winning streak. Their offense was the catalyst behind the streak but for the majority of the game, their bats went cold. The Rams found themselves in a one-run deficit going into the last inning. The bats would come alive for the Rams, but it would not be enough failing to come back and lose 5-4.

“He did a good job keeping the score where it was,” said Head Coach Ben Brann. “He competed really well.”

Despite the loss, senior Easton Creech had a great day on the mound and at the plate. On the mound, Creech pitched 3.2 innings allowing just two hits and one run. He also struck out three batters on the mound. At the plate, he had one hit and one hard-hit grounder that forced an error, that scored two runs in the sixth inning.

“You can’t let just a couple of runs keep your intensity down,” said Brann. “You gotta chip away at it all the time”.

The Rams were down most of the game even going into the final inning down 1 run. They would start the comeback attempt with a single from junior Noah Roberson two walks forced by sophomore Mason Dillion and junior Will Radford. This would load the bases for the Rams down one run. The comeback would fall short after consecutive strikeouts from junior Riley Radford and senior Elijah Monore.

“That same attitude and we’re gonna come and bring that intensity”

With the loss, the Rams fall for the first time in conference play and brings their record to 2-1 in the conference, and 4-3 overall. They will look for some revenge on friday; as they play the cougars once again, this time as away game.

After their victory, the Cougars improve their conference record to 2-1 and their overall record to 7-1. They hope history repeats itself in a rematch with the Rams.
