Greene County Recreation Director Mike Anderson Resigns for Perfect Game Role

SNOW HILL, N.C. — After 13 years at the helm of Greene County Recreation, Director Mike Anderson has announced his resignation to take on a new role with Perfect Game SEC as the Area Director for the Down East Market.

Anderson, who has been a driving force in expanding youth sports and recreation opportunities in the county, called the decision a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity but expressed gratitude for his time serving Greene County.

“I’ve loved every minute of it. I love the kids and the friendships I’ve made along the way,” Anderson said. “We had a good rec when I took over, and the old saying is to leave it better than you found it—I believe we have.”

Anderson played a key role in bringing travel baseball to the county, overseeing baseball tournaments, and supporting community events like Kids on Stage. His efforts not only created opportunities for young athletes but also boosted the local economy, with businesses adjusting their hours to accommodate event crowds.

Greene County Commissioner Derek Burress praised Anderson’s dedication and leadership.

"Mike has done a great job expanding our recreation offerings and overseeing the opening of the new Wellness Center," Burress said. "There have been a few bumps in the road, but he has always put the children of Greene County first in every decision. His work with baseball tournaments and Kids on Stage helped expand opportunities, and the use of our facilities has had a huge impact on the local economy. Restaurants even adjusted their hours to accommodate event crowds. We will miss him tremendously."

Burress also shared his gratitude on social media:

"I want to wish Mike Anderson all the best as he moves on to his new position! His dedication and hard work have made a real difference in our community, and he will truly be missed. I’ve enjoyed working with him and appreciate everything he’s done for Greene County. While I hate to see him go, I know he’ll do great things in this next chapter. Best of luck, Mike!"

As of now, Malcolm Dawson will assume Anderson’s duties following the completion of a 30-day notice.
