Ross’ Grand Slam Fuels North Lenoir’s 15-4 Victory Over Wallace-Rose Hill

North Lenoir wasted no time asserting control Wednesday night, riding a dominant first inning and a five-RBI performance from senior Jayla Ross to cruise past Wallace-Rose Hill 15-4.

Ross delivered the game’s biggest moment early, launching a grand slam to center field in the first inning to put the Hawks firmly in command. She later added an RBI double in the fifth, capping off her standout performance at the plate.

The Hawks’ first-inning offensive explosion saw them pile up 11 runs, taking advantage of Wallace-Rose Hill miscues while making key plays of their own. Stroud, Reaves, and Rouse each added RBIs before Hallie Fowler capped the inning with a three-run double.

Lakyn Whitley continued her impressive season with an RBI triple in the second, while Norah Wine’s RBI double in the third stretched North Lenoir’s lead even further.

Pitching Holds Strong

Fowler (2-0) got the start in the circle, tossing two innings while allowing four runs—only two earned—on four hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Senior Maddie Rouse took over in relief, shutting down Wallace-Rose Hill over the final three frames. She gave up just one hit, issued no walks, and struck out four, lowering her season ERA to 2.04 while improving to 2-1 on the year.

Season Trends

With the win, North Lenoir improves to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The Hawks have won four straight and are proving themselves as a force at the plate. Fowler leads the team in hitting with a .562 average, 10 RBIs, and an eye-popping .682 on-base percentage. Whitley (.533 AVG, .632 OBP), Ross (.500 AVG, 8 RBIs, .643 OBP), Kailey Bridwell (.500 AVG), and Rouse (.500 AVG, 9 RBIs) are also putting up impressive numbers.

Wallace-Rose Hill drops to 1-4 with the loss. Sophie Sloan went 2-for-3 to lead the Bulldogs at the plate, while Keyonna Thomas, Mattie Gavin, and Sloan each drove in a run.

North Lenoir will look to keep its momentum rolling at home on Friday against Kinston before hitting the road for a key matchup at North Pitt on March 26.
