Rams fall to Wilson Hunt in home opener, Conner Radford shines for Warriors

SNOW HILL—Greene Central suffered a 6-4 loss to Wilson Hunt in their home opener on Wednesday, with sophomore shortstop Conner Radford playing a major role for the Warriors. Radford went 3-5 with two runs and also came in to pitch in the final inning, earning the save.

"It felt like he was coming to bat every inning and getting on base every inning. He's a good player," said Greene Central head coach Ben Brann.

The Rams and Warriors traded runs in the first inning, with Greene Central taking the lead in the second on an RBI single from Will Radford. GC’s went 3-4 for the game.

Wilson Hunt tied it up in the third before the Rams regained the lead in the fourth on a sacrifice fly from Braden Burress.

However, the Warriors pulled ahead in the sixth inning with four runs, taking a 6-3 lead. The Rams managed to score one more run in the bottom of the sixth on Burress' double, but were unable to mount a comeback in the seventh inning.

Despite the loss, Brann was proud of his team's effort against a tough opponent. "We played hard, hit the ball up and down the lineup, and threw the ball well against a really talented 3A Hunt team," he said.

The Rams will look to bounce back on Friday as they travel to face cross-town rival North Lenoir.
