In a thrilling matchup at North Lenoir High School, the school's softball team emerged victorious with a 7-5 win over Ayden-Grifton, marking their second win of the season.
The girls of North Lenoir put in an impressive performance with 15 hits as a team. The standout players of the game were Lakyn Whitley, Hallie Fowler, Maddie Rouse, Alyssa Hatcher, and Skylar Harrison. Lakyn Whitley went 3-4 with four runs scored, while Hallie Fowler went 1-3 with two runs and 2 RBI's. Maddie Rouse had an impressive outing both at the plate and on the mound, going 3-4 with two RBI's and pitching 3 2/3 innings giving up 0 runs, two hits, one strikeout and three walks. Alyssa Hatcher also had a great game, going 2-3 with one RBI and one run, while Skylar Harrison had a perfect day at the plate, going 3-3.
Despite Ayden-Grifton scoring all their runs in the fifth inning, North Lenoir kept their composure and put together some good at-bats to make a comeback and take the lead.
The girls also made some crucial plays on defense to maintain the lead. Coach Bobby Hatcher was extremely proud of his team's efforts, stating, "I am very proud of the way the girls fought. Ayden had a big 3rd inning, but our girls kept their heads up and put together some good at bats to comeback and take the lead. They also made some big plays on defense to keep that lead. Every girl did something that had a big impact on the outcome. It was a total team effort."
It was a great win for North Lenoir, and the team will look to build on this momentum in their next game. The Hawks will host Greene Central this Friday.
