Patriots sweep Falcons on Senior Night

The Arendell Parrott Academy Patriots hosted the Epiphany Falcons of New Bern on Thursday evening. Both the Boys and Girls Varsity teams won their game while also celebrating their seniors on Senior Night. The boys won 62-42, while the girls fought back to win a close contest 31-28.

Girls Game:

The Lady Patriots trailed the Lady Falcons by 5 points entering the fourth quarter of their game. Head Coach Henry Piner had his team ready to play, and they proved eager to the task as they outscored their opponent 14-6 in the fourth quarter.

“These girls didn't quit. They played great defense in the second half. We finally got some shots to go in, and we took care of business,” Coach Piner said after the win.

The Lady Patriots were led in scoring by Sydney Myers. Myers scored 13 points in the win, with 8 of them coming in the fourth quarter.

“We had a rougher start, but we definitely came together in the end to pull out the win,” Myers remarked. Julia Beagleman had another solid performance with 7 points in the win. The lone Senior on the team, Ashley Hill, made her first and only appearance of the year. Hill, who has battled injury this year, started for the Patriots and scored a bucket in the win.

The Lady Patriots will have one more game this year; they will host Liberty Christian on Friday evening. Coach Piner and his team will be looking to end their season with another solid performance and win.

Boys Game: There were five seniors recognized for the Patriots tonight: Giorgio Parravicini, Connor Woelfel, William Corey, Asher Lowry, and Jeremy Snipes. These five seniors were the starting five for Head Coach Clay Harrell and his team.

The Patriots held a 5-point lead at halftime. After the dust had settled, the Patriots flexed a 20-point win. The Patriots outscored the Falcons 27-7 in the 3rd quarter to take total control of the game.

“We had a flat start. My message at halftime was to win the first four minutes (of the second half). I am proud of them for our second half,” Coach Harrell said after the game.

Senior Asher Lowry led the Patriots with 19 points in the dominating win. Lowry, who has battled injury this year, saw action in only his fifth game of the year. “I was trying to have a good home game with my seniors. We've been going through a lot, playing hard, and working hard,” Lowry said after the win. Fellow senior, Giorgio Parravicini, had 13 points, while Freshman Chase Jones added 10 points as well. The win snapped a 13-game losing streak for the Patriots.

They will also host Liberty Christian on Friday evening to close out their season. Coach Harrell will be looking to ride the momentum of a very emotional Senior night as they look to end their season with back-to-back wins.
