The Arendell Parrott Academy Patriots kicked off their 2023-24 season with a split result against Bear Grass Charter on Tuesday night, witnessing a promising victory for the men's team but a challenging debut for the Lady Patriots under new coach Henry Piner.
Boys Team: 56-45 Win
Dominating from the outset, the boys' team clinched a 56-45 victory in their season opener. Freshman sensation Chase Jones (#11) led the charge with an impressive 23 points, including five three-pointers. Asher Lowry (#12) contributed 9 points, and Giorgo Parravicini (#00) added 8. Other notable scorers were Connor Woelfel (#4) with 7 points and Thatcher Whaley (#4) with 4. Fletcher Jones (#5), William Corey (#10), and Oliver LuQuire (#23) each added a point.
Coach Harrell's Comments
Coach Harrell praised the team's resilience, emphasizing their adherence to the principles of 'work, mental toughness, and discipline.' He was particularly impressed with freshman Chase Jones, noting, "He is a talented young man. When you’ve got kids like that, it makes your life a little bit easier. He’s a great kid and, on top of that, he's really good at basketball."
Girls Team: 38-15 Loss
The Lady Patriots, under the guidance of first-year coach Henry Piner, faced a tough 38-15 defeat in their season opener. Caroline Stocks (#3) led the scoring with 7 points. Valli Blackwelder (#11), CJ Blackwelder (#13), Sydney Myers (#15), and Julia Begelman (#32) each added 2 points.

After the Thanksgiving break, both teams will return to action at Rocky Mount Academy on November 28, 2023. The Lady Patriots aim for a comeback, while the men's team looks to maintain their winning momentum.
