AYDEN—Kicking off their season with enthusiasm, the North Lenoir Hawks, under Coach Howard Wooley, secured an impressive 57-31 win over Ayden-Grifton. This 26-point triumph sets an upbeat tone for the team, eclipsing any win margin from their previous season's 13-12 record, where they finished second in the conference.

Senior point guard Shamaya Lynch was a standout, opening her senior season with a stellar performance that included 27 points, 6 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 3 steals. Her remarkable start, scoring 10 points in the first quarter, laid the groundwork for the Hawks' victory. Coach Wooley praised Lynch, saying, "She has worked real hard on her game. She is so smart, and takes the game very serious. She is very competitive."

Ricayla Warren also made a significant contribution, particularly in the paint and on the boards, scoring 9 points with six key points in the second quarter. Supporting efforts came from JayShaynna Kittrell and Kristina Mewborn, who each added six points.

Coach Wooley expressed confidence in the team's defensive capabilities: "I feel good. I thought we were real good on defense, the way we played tonight is going to be symbolic of how we are going to play this season." He highlighted the team's strength in utilizing their length on the wings to energize their offense.

The team's free-throw performance, 7 for 13 on the night, was identified as an area for growth. Coach Wooley emphasized the importance of improvement in this aspect, stating, "One thing we are always going to work on is our free throws."

Looking ahead, the Hawks are preparing for their next game against Neuse Charter on November 28th.
