AYDEN—In their season opener, the North Lenoir Hawks boys basketball team faced a formidable challenge against Ayden-Grifton, concluding with a 68-60 loss. The game, which began with Ayden-Grifton taking an early 17-4 lead, highlighted areas for the Hawks to focus on in their upcoming matches.

Genesis Wiggins stood out for North Lenoir with an impressive 22 points, energizing the team with three spectacular dunks. Matching Wiggins in scoring, Malachi Ramsey also contributed 22 points, while Tyler Banks added 5 points and two notable assists.

Reflecting on the game, Coach Anthony Copperhead acknowledged the team's effort and the early struggle. "I thought the guys played hard. Ayden-Grifton came out with a lot of energy," he said. Despite the initial deficit, North Lenoir managed to rally in the second half before strategic mistakes impacted their game. "We weathered the storm and went up, but then we started making bad decisions," Copperhead remarked.

The focus for the Hawks, as identified by Coach Copperhead, is on improving their decision-making with the ball. "The number one thing we're going to work on is ball decisions," he emphasized, highlighting the need for better control and discipline on the court.

Coach Copperhead also outlined the team's strategy moving forward, aiming for a fast-paced defense and a patient offense. This approach is designed to capitalize on the team's strengths and address the challenges faced in the opener.

As the Hawks prepare for their next game, the lessons learned from their season opener will be crucial in refining their gameplay. With an emphasis on strategic improvements and disciplined execution, North Lenoir looks forward to their next opportunity to showcase their progress and resilience. The team's next match is at home against Neuse Charter on November 28th
