Patriots Garrett Byrd throws a shutout against Bethel
Sophomore Garrett Byrd led the Arendell Parrott Academy Patriots to a 13-0 win versus the cross-town rival Bethel Christian Academy Trojans. Byrd was inches away from throwing a no hitter.
Byrd threw a complete game, giving up only one hit, one walk, and ten strikeouts. Byrd went 3-4 at the plate with three RBI and a home run to deep left-center field.
"Garrett is one of our best players," APA head coach Robert Kravitz said. "He proved it tonight. I'm proud of him."
His teammate Caleb Sanderson almost got him a big homerun to the same spot, but he hit the top of the fence for a double. The Patriots almost scored in every inning, while the Trojans couldn't find much success. Bethel’s Zack Harrison broke up the APA no-hitter in the fourth inning.
The Patriots gave Byrd plenty of backup by not committing any errors and scoring 13 runs to let Byrd pitch without any pressure. Eighth grader Blayden Pridgen went 3-5 at the dish with two RBI.
APA (7-2) will play Coastal Christian (3-3) at home next Tuesday at 4 pm. Bethel (1-2) will play Liberty Christian Academy at home next Thursday at 4 pm.
