Riley Radford powers the Rams over Southside

CHOCOWINITY—Greene Central's freshman phenom, Riley Radford, demonstrated that being a freshman doesn't limit one's prowess. The six-foot-one dynamo led the Rams to an impressive 11-5 victory over Southside (5-3).

The Rams' offense ignited in the first inning when Wilkes Thomas grounded into a double play, but they still managed to bring in Braden Burress. The following at bat, Riley Radford's triple drove in Elijah Monroe, and Noah Uzzell's single drove in Austin Hardy, putting the Rams up 3-0 in the first inning.

Greene Central added three more runs the next inning, sparked by an RBI single from Easton Creech. Radford later capped off the second inning with a solo home run, giving the Rams a 6-0 advantage.

"We came out of the gate hot," said Rams coach Ben Brann. "We had a lot of focus and energy."

On the mound, Radford continued to impress, earning the win for Greene Central. The right-handed pitcher threw two scoreless innings, allowing just two hits, fanning three, and walking none. Leland Barrow, Austin Brock, and Lucas Ellis all contributed strong relief efforts.

"Had production all throughout the lineup, Will and Riley Radford specifically," Brann noted. "They took advantage of some of Southside's miscues."

The Rams racked up nine hits in total, with both freshmen Will and Riley Radford collecting multiple hits. Monroe led the charge on the base paths, swiping three bags for Greene Central.

Sporting a 5-3 overall record and a 2-0 conference record, Greene Central looks to keep the momentum going as they host Southwest Edgecombe (6-1, 1-1) in their next conference matchup on Tuesday, March 21st.
