South Lenoir junior Gavin Brock was named East Central 3A/4A Player of the Year and head coach Vance Wade earned Coach of the Year honors after leading the Blue Devils to their first conference championship since 2005 with a 15-8 season and 9-2 league record.

Behind a scorching first half from Keyshawn Herring and a dominant second quarter, Kinston rolled past Greene Central 71-56 on the road, improving to 17-2 overall and 8-1 in conference play. Angel Lee placed second at the NCHSAA Girls Regional Championships at South Davidson High School, becoming the first female wrestler in North Lenoir history — and the first from Lenoir County — to qualify for the NCHSAA State Championships. The state tournament will be held Feb. 19–21 in Greensboro.
Deitrich Williams captured state championships in the high jump (6-6) and triple jump (44-0.5), Keith Neal finished second in the shot put (45-6.5), Darryl Parham placed third in the 55-meter hurdles (7.95), and Kinston’s girls added a runner-up finish in the 4×200 relay (1:51.33) as the Vikings’ boys secured a fifth-place team finish at the NCHSAA 3A Indoor State Championships.
