North Lenoir Men's Tennis Triumphs Over East Carteret
North Lenoir High School's men's tennis team emerged victorious in their recent match against East Carteret, taking the win with a decisive 7-2 score. This victory brings the team's season record to 4-3 and the second win in a row this week as the Hawks defeated Washington 7-2 on Tuesday.
The North Lenoir players showcased exceptional skill and adaptability throughout the series, overcoming not just their opponents but also challenging weather conditions all week. Junior Austin Williams led the charge with a dominant performance in the first singles match, defeating his East Carteret opponent 6-2, 6-0. Freshman Casey Alston and sophomore Zachary Yarus also delivered strong performances, winning their respective singles matches 6-1, 6-4 and 6-4, 6-2.
Though North Lenoir's Josh Hardy fell to an East Carteret player in the fourth singles match, freshmen Maddox Smith and senior Jared Carlyle came through with wins in the fifth and sixth singles matches. The team's doubles matches were similarly successful, with Alston and Williams winning the first doubles match 8-6 and Smith and Yarus taking the second doubles match 8-3. The third doubles match saw North Lenoir's Jack Jones and Jared Carlyle defeated by East Carteret's duo, but the overall victory was already secure.
North Lenoir's coach, Scott Alston, commended the team's performance, stating, "Boys played through tough conditions all week. We not only played our opponents but windy weather conditions. Proud of our effort and finishing out the sweep of Washington during the season, which is always a tough opponent."
