UNC's Dontrez Styles hits the transfer portal

Kinston native and former Kinston Viking standout just entered his name in the transfer portal. The 6-foot-6 forward just finished his sophomore year at North Carolina. His freshman year, Styles played in all 33 games and averaged 2.0 points in 5.8 minutes per game. Styles made a huge contribution in the UNC national championship run, including 9 points against Baylor and a go-ahead 3-pointer in overtime to help the Heels advance.

Going into his sophomore season, Styles was expected to be a major factor in the lineup. Head coach Hubert Davis played Styles sparingly and sometimes not at all. The former Viking appeared in less than half of the games (15 of 33) and had some quality games like against Boston College in the ACC tournament, only to be followed by not finding the court the very next game.

Styles should be a hot player in the portal with an NBA body, skills to play multiple positions, and athletic ability through the roof.
