North Lenoir senior Garrett Byrd delivered a clutch all-around performance in last Friday’s 5-4 victory over Greene Central, earning him this week’s Male Athlete of the Week. Byrd showcased his power at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a solo home run, an RBI, and a walk, while also making a significant impact on the mound. The senior pitched four strong innings, allowing just four hits while striking out six batters.

However, his biggest moment came behind the plate. With the Rams threatening to tie the game in the final inning, Byrd, playing catcher, made the game-winning tag at home, sealing the victory for the Hawks in dramatic fashion.

North Lenoir’s leader on both sides of the game, Byrd’s clutch performance helped the Hawks edge out a key conference win as they continue their season.
