Kinston basketball competes in multiple summer invitationals and camps.
Coming off a successful stint at the NC LIVE Team Camp in Bermuda Run, NC, the Kinston Vikings basketball team is now shifting their focus to the annual East Coast Invitational (ECI) team camp in Jacksonville. This much-anticipated tournament, set to run from Thursday, June 22 to Sunday, June 25, 2023, is expected to spotlight some of North Carolina's top high school basketball talent.
Despite losing seven senior players from their previous 21-6 season, the Vikings have shown no signs of slowing down. Young talent buoyed by the steady leadership the Kinston continues to build.
Reflecting on the NC LIVE Team Camp experience, where the Vikings finished 3-1, Coach Tyndall said, "We had a good weekend! We got better! The NC Live Team Camp is put on by the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association. We always appreciate the invite to attend this camp. It allows our team to play against solid competition and also allows our players to play in front of numerous college coaches in attendance."
The Vikings, according to Tyndall, showcased a strong connectedness during their games, a trait he is hopeful they will carry into the upcoming ECI tournament. "Our guys played hard and played connected with each other. Definitely can build off the weekend," he said.
The Vikings will face their first test at the ECI on Thursday, with a 3:00pm game against Hopewell, followed by a 7:00pm face-off against Harrells Academy. A packed schedule awaits them on Friday, with matches against Trask, Apex Friendship, and West Caldwell. Saturday promises another action-packed day, as Kinston will compete against East Duplin at 10:00am, followed by a match against Ashley, helmed by former Kinston coach Wells Gulledge, at 1:00pm.
While the tournament promises thrilling matchups, it is also an opportunity for the Vikings to test their mettle against challenging opponents and continue their growth as a unit. “The ECI is another opportunity in our summer to play in a great event, against good competition, and continue to build on developing our team going into next season. It’s a camp that tests you in many ways mentally and physically. We look forward to it every summer“ coach Tyndall said.
As Kinston marches into the ECI, their collective development will undoubtedly be the key to their success.
