Post 43 falls to Plymouth

Kinston Post 43's Senior Legion baseball team had a difficult time keeping pace with Plymouth Legion, culminating in an 8-2 defeat on Tuesday evening.

Plymouth Legion seized control early, scoring four runs in the top of the third inning. Their offensive surge was fueled by Malik Hill's groundout, which scored two runs, Sean Gerard's single that plated another, and C Langley's double which drove in an additional run.

Plymouth's pitcher Trent Sawyer turned in a commendable performance, yielding five hits and two runs over four innings, striking out seven, and issuing just one walk. Ricky Cooke took the mound for Post 43, surrendering four runs (none earned) on six hits over three innings. Cooke struck out none and walked three in his outing.

For Kinston Post 43, the standout was number eight hitter Reed Davis. The incoming South Lenoir freshman illustrated the depth of the lineup by leading the team with two hits in three at-bats. Connor Ferebee also contributed with a hit and an RBI in his two plate appearances.

In total, Post 43 managed to turn one double play during the contest, but their defensive efforts weren't enough to stave off Plymouth Legion's potent offense. Plymouth amassed nine hits throughout the game, with Ryan Ange and Sean Gerard leading the charge. Both hitters, batting consecutively in the lineup, collected two hits each. Ange especially stood out, leading Plymouth Legion with two runs batted in and going 2-for-4 at the plate.

The defeat brings Kinston Post 43's season record to 4-6. Looking to bounce back, Post 43 will host Fuquay Legion at home on Friday in their next match
