WHEAT SWAMP—On a Thursday night at home, the North Lenoir Hawks JV football team soared to their first win of the season, defeating East Carteret in a game that showcased their prowess on both sides of the ball. The Hawks wasted no time in establishing their dominance, with Jakell Cannon setting the tone early with a 10-yard touchdown run.

Coach Copperhead was pleased with his team's performance, stating, "We practiced really hard. I'm happy that the guys went out there and executed and got to have some fun. It's going to be a long season. We just have to keep getting better on the little things. I'm happy for them, and it's good when you win."

The Hawks' offense was a balanced machine, featuring multiple players making significant contributions. Braxton Loftin Myers was particularly impressive, rushing for 111 yards and scoring three touchdowns on just three carries. Divine Lynch also had a standout performance, contributing 67 yards on six carries and adding two touchdowns to the Hawks' offensive tally.

Not to be outdone, the Hawks' defense was equally formidable. Xavier Brown made a game-sealing interception with just 5:39 left on the clock, ensuring that East Carteret would leave Kinston with another loss to add to their record.

Statistically, the Hawks had several players with notable performances. Quarterback Taevion Collier finished the game with 74 yards passing and 60 yards rushing on six carries. Running back Divine Lynch had 67 yards on six carries and two touchdowns. Braxton Loftin Myers rushed for 111 yards with three touchdowns on three carries. Mathew Sanders and Christian Durham each added a rushing touchdown, with Sanders also finishing with 74 yards receiving off five receptions.

With this win, the North Lenoir JV team improves their season record to 1-2. The Hawks will look to build on this momentum as they prepare for their next matchup, aiming to continue their winning ways.
