Rams fall to Vikings 3-0

SNOW HILL—The Greene Central men's varsity soccer team lost a hard-fought game to D.H. Conley on Thursday evening. The loss sent the Rams to 4-2 on the season and was their second consecutive loss after starting the season 4-0. The Rams allowed three goals during the contest. The Vikings scored one of their goals in the first half and the latter two in the second half.
After the Rams conceded the first goal, momentum seemed to swing back to their side as they continued to pressure the Vikings' back line. Only moments after the Vikings' goal, the Rams sent a cross into the box that was deflected and put into the back of the net. However, that goal was taken off the board after the line official deemed the Rams offsides. The Rams continued to press during the remainder of the first half leading up to halftime.
In the second half, D.H. Conley slowly regained the momentum and was able to net the last two goals to secure the 3-0 victory. Coach Jacob Baird was optimistic about his team's performance on the pitch. "It was a tough game; both teams fought hard. We had our chances, they had theirs. We take it as a learning point going into Monday," he said.
On Monday, the Rams will host North Pitt to open conference play. Coach Baird reiterated the fact that his team is a close-knit group. "We are a family; we've got to talk to each other, pick each other up... and keep fighting," he said. The Rams will have their hands full on Monday as the Panthers are 8-1 on the season, scoring 64 goals and only allowing nine goals in those nine games.
This Rams team, though defeated this evening, left the pitch with their heads held high after the hard-fought game. There is no doubt that Coach Baird will have his group ready to play come Monday evening.
