Hawks win 11-1 over the Blue Devils
LAGRANGE, N.C. – The North Lenoir Hawks (8-2) extended their win streak over the South Lenoir Blue Devils (5-4) to 11 games with a commanding 11-1 victory on Friday night at the Swamp. Led by Luke Cannon's standout performance both on the mound and at the plate, the Hawks continue their dominance in this local rivalry.
South Lenoir took an early lead in the first inning when Jacob Howard singled on the first pitch of his at-bat, bringing Lucas West home. However, the Hawks quickly bounced back and maintained control throughout the game.
Cannon and Carter Chadwick were key contributors to the Hawks' offense, each collecting multiple hits. Cannon led the team with a 3-for-5 showing at the plate. The North Lenoir defense also played a major role in the win, committing no errors during the game.
"I am really excited for Luke and the whole team," said Hawks coach Jackson Massey. "Luke struggled in his last outing, and we talked Monday and got some things fixed."
Cannon, a senior leader and Campbell commit, had experienced one of his worst performances against East Duplin just a week prior.
"It sucked a lot," Cannon admitted. "It's been years since a loss has affected me for that long, but it feels good to come back tonight with a great performance."
The right-hander pitched for five innings, allowing five hits and one run while striking out seven. Eli Kearney provided one inning of relief from the bullpen.
South Lenoir's Landon Tyndall took the loss, allowing four hits and six runs over two and two-thirds innings, with one strikeout. Lucas West led the Blue Devils at the plate with two hits in three at-bats.
"Defense was great tonight," Cannon said. "I don't think we had any errors at all. Tyler did a great job behind the plate blocking up balls and framing."
Coach Massey echoed Cannon's sentiments, saying, "We played good defense behind him. We gave them a lot of run support and top to bottom, offense, defense, and pitching. Super proud of the guys because South Lenoir is always going to play you hard, and they got a couple of bad breaks in the game tonight."
North Lenoir is set to face James Kenan on Tuesday, April 4th, while South Lenoir will look to bounce back against Eastern Wayne on Monday.
