Greene Central JV Rams fall 26-16 to Farmville Central
Snow Hill— The Greene Central JV football team suffered their first loss of the season Thursday night, falling 26-16 to Farmville Central in a hard-fought matchup in Snow Hill.
Farmville Central drew first blood, but the Rams were quick to respond. A 20-yard rushing touchdown by Sam Avent propelled Greene Central ahead 8-6 in the second quarter.
The Rams continued to show signs of life in the second half. Sparked by several long runs from Dejuan Cobb, quarterback Trey Bynum connected with tight end Deuce Wilson on a 2-yard touchdown pass, narrowing Farmville Central's lead to 20-16 with just under 12 minutes left in the final quarter.
Despite a few defensive stops late in the game, Greene Central couldn't muster a game-winning drive, marred by multiple interceptions. The Jaguars' triple-option offense proved too much for the Rams to handle.
Southwest Edgecombe leads the conference and previously defeated Farmville Central 58-30. A win against Southwest Edgecombe would put the Rams in a three-way tie for first place in the conference standings.
"We met a competitive team that wanted to compete with us," said Rams Coach Vinson Thorpe after the game. "Some things went their way, and a couple things didn't go our way. They were successful at the end."
