Damian Dunn announced his transfer destination

Kinston, N.C. — Temple University transfer guard Damian Dunn, a Kinston native, has decided to take his talents to Houston University, according to an announcement made on his Instagram account. The two-time All-AAC player has been a hot commodity in the NCAA transfer portal since entering on Monday, with several top-tier programs expressing interest.

Dunn, who played three years of high school basketball in Kinston before transferring to a school in Georgia for his senior year, chose Houston over numerous other offers. The list of interested schools included Tennessee, Auburn, Gonzaga, UConn, Miami, Iowa State, NC State, Missouri, Penn State, Villanova, Georgia, Mississippi State, Nebraska, and Clemson, as reported by ESPN's Jeff Borzello.

The 6-foot-5 guard was a three-star recruit in the 2019 class and initially chose Temple over offers from Georgia Tech, VCU, and others. As a graduate transfer, Dunn has consistently performed well for Temple, averaging double figures in scoring for each of the past three seasons.

In the 2022-23 season, Dunn posted his best numbers yet, averaging 15.3 points per game, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.0 assists on 41.1% shooting from the field and 34.8% from beyond the arc. His performance earned him Third Team All-AAC honors. Dunn has two seasons of eligibility remaining due to his redshirt during the 2019-20 season and the NCAA's COVID-19 blanket waiver for the 2020-21 season. However, he will count against Houston's 13-man scholarship limit.

Houston University's basketball program, known for its strong coaching and player development, will undoubtedly benefit from the addition of Dunn's experience and talent. Kinston locals can look forward to watching one of their own continue to excel at the next level as Damian Dunn embarks on his "Next Chapter" with the Cougars.
