2024 Kinston Football Preview
Team name:
Kinston
Coach name:
Ryan Geiselman
Key Returners:
Mishaun Pollard (JR) Offensive lineman- Pollard is going to be one of the most important pieces and underrated pieces to the puzzle. Pollard has step up to the challenge to being a leader on the offensive line and Kinston success will be directly influenced by Pollard’s play.
Jeremiah Hart (Sr) Running back- Quite, not flashy, not average, fast, strong, quick, and explosive athlete. Hart is often overlooked due to the Kinston Air-Raid style offense. Hart is consistent and runs the ball with great vision.
Tyreek Copper (Jr) Wide Receiver- The most complete football player in the area. No one is more all around and complete. Copper comes with minimum weakness, he is a great leader, and you CAN NOT GUARD HIM!
Offensive Sheme:
Multi Spread, Air Raid
Defensive Sheme:
Multi 3-4
2023-24 record:
4-7
The Story:
Grab your popcorn because it’s about to get real fun in Kinston this year. Kinston is returning many key players from last season while also introducing some new faces in major roles. Kinston runs a pass-happy spread offense, featuring one of the best wide receivers in North Carolina—junior Tyreek Copper. Copper has made noticeable progress in both of his high school off-seasons so far. He’s a big-time playmaker and by far the most complete wide receiver I’ve covered. He’s tall, strong, fast, athletic, and can outjump and outrun you—all while possessing a SUPER HIGH football IQ.
Throwing Copper the ball is a new face from DH Conley, Tyler Jones. Jones, a junior, has a good-sized frame at around 6’2". He’s also a baseball player, which shows in his strong arm, but Jones is an all-around quarterback with good footwork. Jones will have multiple weapons to throw to, including transfer Okie Edwards from Greene Central, who will be playing on the other side of Copper. Edwards is tall, super fast, and works extremely hard. He has big-play capabilities that will help open up the offense.
On the defensive side of the ball, returners like Javen Dixon, Koraun Humphries, and Exavion Croom lead the Vikings with plenty of experience. A dark-horse secret weapon is Alex Moore, a transfer from South Central who is a PLAYMAKER. Moore is a physical, dynamite-in-a-box, extremely athletic safety who’s going to fly all over the field this season for the Vikings.
Even on the sideline, Coach Geiselman has welcomed two new coaches: Vinston Thorpe from Greene Central on the offensive side and Lonnie Davis from South Central on the defensive side. This team is going to be really good, but they’re still working on figuring out the puzzle. It won’t take long, and once this team builds that chemistry, they’re going to be DANGEROUS.
