2024 Greene Central Football Preview
Team name:
Greene Central
Coach name:
Jay Wilson
Key Returners:
Offensive Line- This is what Greene Central will hang their hat on this season. The Rams are returning the whole offensive line, replacing one senior but expect to see this line win in the trenches lead by Craig Whitley and Jaylen Chavez.
Kimez Coppedge (JR) Wide Receiver/ Defensive end- INCREDIBLE ATHLETE. Great size, basketball star, springy, well-put together body frame. Good wide receiver and reliable target but Coppedge goes to WORK at defensive end. He is a dog coming off that edge and incredible hard to block. Coppedge has D-1 potential in my opinion.
Tyler Williams (Sr) Offensive/Defensive Lineman- The best offensive/defensive lineman in the area. Mainly known for his defensive dominance or havoc caused in the trenches. Williams is big time player, and a very important key piece to this team success. Not a big vocal player but a big time play maker. .
Offensive Sheme:
Spread Offense
Defensive Sheme:
Multi 3-4
2023-24 record:
4-7
The Story:
This will be a very interesting season for the Rams, and we’ll learn a lot about Greene Central. What we do know is they are led by head coach Jay Wilson, who is known for stingy defenses and passionate showmanship. Defensively, the Rams will be aggressive. Up front, they’ll be strong with Mel Coppedge, Tyler Williams, and Jalin Sutton. Also, keep an eye on Michael Suggs Jr., a ball-hawking safety and one of the leaders in the secondary. In the second level, expect big hits from Chris Didly and Donovan Hall, who will be flying from sideline to sideline.
The Rams are returning their entire offensive line. Although they replaced one senior, all of the current linemen got significant playing time last season. The biggest question for the Rams is where the offensive production will come from. The team has had two consecutive great JV seasons, and this group of kids and athletes is solid. The key will be how quickly they can transition to varsity speed.
At running back, junior Dejuan Cobb will be the Rams' go-to, with junior Nick Avent handing it off to him at quarterback. Avent's play at quarterback will be crucial to the team's success, especially as the Rams like to line up in the spread offense. Finding ways to get playmakers like Christian Tavarez the ball in open space will be essential for the Rams.
I think the Rams have a very bright future ahead and will build towards that with each game this season.
