Jones Senior travels to Kinston and earns 9-0 victory

Matt Howell of Jones Senior High School can possibly claim he is the only soccer coach in North Carolina to have never lost a game. Jones Senior, in the school’s first-ever soccer game, defeated a Kinston High School team 9-0 tonight at Viking Stadium.

Kinston never got an honest shot on goal as Jones Senior’s defense did their best to keep up with the offensive prowess of Jones Seniors Oliver Pfyl’s five goals and one assist, Kevin Sanchez-Valdes’s three goals, Erik Sanchez-Valdez’s one goal, and Malik Toutah’s one assist.

Kinston, the first school to field a soccer team in Lenoir County some 33 years ago, has not won a game since the 2017-2018 season and has only won three games since 2015.

Jones Senior coach Matt Howell was happy with his team’s performance but insisted they have “work to do” to become a consistent force this year.

Kinston will host its first conference game against the 6-0 South Lenoir Blue Devils on September 11, 2023, at 6:00 p.m.
