Farmville Central Survives Greene Central 60-55 in 115-Point Football Thriller

GREENE COUNTY, N.C. — Greene Central scored 55 points Friday night and still walked away with a loss. Farmville Central survived a back-and-forth offensive showdown, 60-55, on Oct. 23 in a game that featured 115 combined points and two lead changes in the final minutes.
After Farmville Central took a 54-48 lead with 4:43 remaining, the Rams answered with a 36-yard touchdown reception by Trey Bynum and the extra point to take a 55-54 lead with 2:35 left. Farmville Central responded with a drive that ended in Cotton’s 9-yard touchdown run with 37 seconds remaining. Greene Central started its final possession at its own 9-yard line with 30 seconds left but could not answer.

Ingram and Gaitor deliver explosive performances
Greene Central’s ground attack was led by Don Ingram, who carried 18 times for an unofficial 269 yards and four rushing touchdowns. Cody Gaitor contributed 89 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries. Ingram’s charted scoring runs covered 11, 36, 34 and 45 yards, and Gaitor scored on runs of 36 and 16 yards. The Rams totaled 357 yards on the ground, according to Neuse News Sports’ in-game chart.
Quarterback Josh Cetnar completed an unofficial 17 of 21 passes for 228 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Bynum hauled in four catches for 97 yards, including the late go-ahead score. JoJo Sanders also completed a 9-yard pass. The charted offense accounted for approximately 594 total yards.
Farmville Central answers with 429 rushing yards
Junior Carlnell Cotton led the Jaguars with an unofficial 256 rushing yards on 24 carries. The sideline chart credits him with six rushing touchdowns and a 13-yard touchdown pass to senior Jabari Jones. He then delivered the decisive score in the final minute. Sophomore Z’mareon Brown added 112 yards on 24 carries, including a touchdown, and senior Jahleel Barrett-Prayer rushed for 49 yards on seven attempts. Junior Xavier Bottoms had 12 yards on two attempts. Farmville Central’s four ballcarriers combined for 429 charted rushing yards.
The Jaguars leaned on Cotton and Brown even as Greene Central piled up explosive plays of its own. On the night, Farmville Central’s running backs averaged about 7.5 yards per carry across the 57 attempts recorded in the Neuse News Sports chart. That sustained ground production meant no Greene Central lead was safe.
The finish underscored how narrow the difference was. Greene Central trailed by six, then led by one, then found itself five points behind — all in a span of just over four minutes. Bynum’s 36-yard reception had the Rams thinking comeback; Cotton’s last touchdown flipped the result again.
