Volleyball: Lancers go 4-3, top last year’s win total

Lenoir Community College volleyball went 4-3 over a busy seven-match stretch and is now 17-8 overall and 8-8 in Region 10 Division II, sixth among 11 teams.

The Lancers have already passed last season’s mark of 14-16, and their eight conference wins are more than double last year’s three.

– Sept. 29 at Richard Bland: L 0-3 (17-25, 20-25, 20-25). Alivia Whitley led LCC with 12 kills, and Kylie Jones had 21 assists.
– Oct. 1 at Pitt: W 3-1 (25-21, 17-25, 25-22, 25-21).
– Oct. 3 vs. Fayetteville Tech: L 1-3 (22-25, 19-25, 25-18, 20-25). Kaydee Hunter had 16 kills, 16 digs and three aces. Jones added 34 assists and 17 digs.
– Oct. 3 vs. Central Carolina: W 3-1 (25-16, 25-13, 17-25, 25-11). Hunter put up 19 kills, 18 digs, three aces and two solo blocks. Madyson Wills had nine kills, and Jones had 21 assists, 18 digs and four aces.
– Oct. 6 vs. Guilford Tech: W 3-0.
– Oct. 7 at Wake Tech: W 3-1 in the Pink Out match.
– Oct. 9 vs. Forsyth Tech: L 0-3 (18-25, 21-25, 20-25).

Big week ahead

LCC has four conference matches left. Davidson-Davie (15-3) visits Tuesday at 6 p.m., a rematch of the Lancers’ Sept. 22 comeback in Thomasville, when they dropped the first two sets 25-10 and 25-15 before winning the next three. Thursday’s trip to Cleveland (6-6) could decide sixth place in the league.
