Lady Patriots Fall to Wayne Christian

The Lady Patriots of Arendell Parrott Academy lost to the Eagles of Wayne Christian 36-45 Thursday evening at home. In the loss, the Patriots showed a lot of improvement from their previous two games. In the first two games of this season, the Patriots were burdened by countless turnovers and a lack of scoring. That changed Thursday evening as the Patriots scored their season-high 36 points in the losing effort.

From the tip-off, it was clear that first-year Head Coach Henry Piner had his team ready to play. Tonight was the first game of the young season where the Patriots seemed to be more comfortable defensively and in their half-court sets. “The biggest thing we have been focusing on in practice, is to take care of the basketball and get into our sets,” Piner said after the loss.

Sydney Myers (#15), who has stepped up to lead the young team in her Junior Season, scored a team-high 14 points. Callie Sanderson (#1) also scored 9 points in the loss. The Patriots are playing this season without their lone senior, Ashley Hill, and look to improve each game with their young team.

Even in the loss, Coach Piner was extremely proud of his team’s hard work on the court. “We are looking for them to improve day in and out. Come into practice and work hard, develop their skill, and come together as a unit,” Piner said.

Looking ahead, the Patriots will host Fayetteville Academy tomorrow evening. They will look to continue their improvement on the court in search of their first win of the season.
