Trojans Sweep The Eagles

The varsity teams of Jones Senior High School, led by first-year head coach Austin Andrews, marked another successful outing, each securing significant victories against Washington Montessori. The boys’ team demonstrated a powerhouse performance with a 63-4 win, while the girls’ team notched a commanding 43-3 victory, bringing both teams to an impressive 2-0 start this season.

Boys Team: Cohesion and Skill

The boys’ team played with remarkable cohesion and skill, attributes that Coach Andrews has been focusing on since his tenure began. Gabriel Butler led the team with 21 points and 8 rebounds, closely followed by Keonte Roberts, who amassed 14 points, 4 assists, 10 steals, and 6 rebounds. Deomarion Jones contributed an efficient 12 points, going 100% from the field.

Reflecting on the boys’ performance, Coach Andrews said, “The boys carried a lot of momentum from Friday’s win against Bear Grass. Keonte Roberts has been the leader and the main drive of our offense. Their understanding of ball control and clock management has significantly improved.”

Girls Team: Aggression and Improvement

The girls’ team showed immense improvement and aggression, especially after their initial jitters in the first game against Bear Grass. Aariel Jemison led the scoring with 26 points, accompanied by 5 steals. Taylor Brown and Cassidy Rouse contributed significantly with 10 points, 4 steals, and 2 rebounds, and 4 points, 11 rebounds, respectively.

Coach Andrews praised the girls’ team for their performance, saying, “Tonight, the ladies had a chip on their shoulders. They played aggressively and covered every part of the floor, grabbing rebounds and forcing turnovers. Cassidy Rouse positioned herself perfectly to secure rebounds.”

Anticipation for Future Games

Both teams are looking forward to their next game against Spring Creek, carrying forward the lessons and strategies imparted by Coach Andrews. His approach of focusing on player development and strategic gameplay is bearing fruit, as seen in the teams’ performances.

Coach Andrews summed up his thoughts: “These ladies and gentlemen have shown impressive growth and development. We’re focusing on maintaining this momentum and looking forward to our next challenges.”
