Blue Devils wins pitching duel against Wallace-Rose Hill

DEEP RUN—In a Friday night showdown, South Lenoir’s Mary Grace Beyer stole the spotlight with her phenomenal pitching, propelling the Blue Devils to a 2-0 triumph over Wallace-Rose Hill (7-2, 1-1).

Both teams brought the heat with stellar pitching performances. Beyer notched four strikeouts, while Wallace-Rose Hill’s Lexi Kennedy tallied eight.

South Lenoir’s Beyer drove in the first run of the game with a double in the first inning. Despite some struggles at the plate, the Blue Devils managed to piece together a solid offensive effort and backed it up with strong defense.

“We made it work,” said Harvey. “We struggled hitting, but strung a few together and played good defense,”

Beyer’s seven-inning, complete-game shutout was instrumental in the Blue Devils’ victory. She gave up just two hits while striking out four.

“MG did a great job keeping their batters at bay. She threw very well, commanded the zone, and got us a ton of ground balls,” Harvey praised.

On the other side, Kennedy pitched six innings for Wallace-Rose Hill, surrendering two runs on four hits, striking out eight, and walking one.

South Lenoir’s Carley Boone led the team’s offense with two hits in two at-bats.

With a 3-3 overall record and a 2-0 conference standing, South Lenoir now looks ahead to their upcoming game against James Kenan (2-4, 0-1) on Tuesday, March 21st.
