NNS Male Athlete of the Week

In an intense showdown in Deep Run, South Lenoir’s junior standout, Matthew Rhodes, played a pivotal role in securing a 2-0 victory over North Lenoir. This week’s Neuse News Male Athlete of the Week, sponsored by Senator Jim Perry, Rhodes delivered a performance to remember. Pitching a complete game shutout, he allowed just three hits and struck out seven batters, demonstrating both skill and composure under pressure.

This victory marks South Lenoir’s first win over North Lenoir since 2016, underscoring the significance of Rhodes’ contribution in this tightly contested game. His pregame preparations include enjoying his favorite snacks from Bojangles and listening to music by Gavin Adcock, which he believes sets him up for success.

Matthew’s favorite teammate is “all of them,” reflecting his strong sense of team unity and camaraderie. Off the field, he looks up to his father, Fredrick Rhodes, who has been a significant role model in his life. Matthew Rhodes not only exemplifies athletic excellence but also embodies the spirit of teamwork and dedication, making him a true leader to the South Lenoir baseball team.
