TRENTON — A third-inning offensive eruption was all the Woodington Raiders needed to secure their third win of the season, as they cruised past Jones, 15-0, on the road Monday afternoon.
Woodington (3-2) exploded for 12 runs in the top of the third inning, putting the game out of reach. Lyndsay Philyaw got the rally going with an RBI single, followed by a bases-loaded walk from Madilyn Parker and a wild pitch that brought in two more. Reagan Bumgarner drew a walk to plate another run, an error added one more, and a steal of home energized the dugout. Parker and another wild pitch later capped off the offensive surge with two more runs.
The Raiders wasted no time getting on the board early, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Bumgarner blasted her second inside-the-park home run in as many games, Philyaw ripped a triple down the left field line to score another, and Parker grounded out to bring in the third run.
Bumgarner was equally dominant in the circle. The sophomore right-hander earned the win with a three-inning complete game, allowing just four hits, striking out three, and walking none.
Philyaw continued to shine in the three-hole, going 2-for-3 with a team-high two RBIs. Blaire Howard and McKinley Turner also recorded two hits apiece, while Bumgarner, Howard, and Sloan Cash each swiped multiple bases. The Raiders totaled nine stolen bases and played flawless defense, with Chesleigh Moore leading the way with four defensive chances.
Jones was led offensively by Trinity, who went 2-for-2 at the plate and helped turn a double play in the field. Ali took the loss for the Trojans, allowing seven hits and eight runs over 2.1 innings with three strikeouts.
Woodington will look to keep the momentum rolling Thursday when they host Rochelle.
