South Lenoir Sweeps Dixon
BOYS
DEEP RUN—In a heart-stopping showdown, the South Lenoir Blue Devils clinched a nail-biting 44-43 triumph over the Dixon Bulldogs. The game opened with the Blue Devils struggling to find their rhythm, stymied by the Bulldogs' relentless pressure, which forced turnovers and yielded easy scores. This aggressive defense saw the Blue Devils trailing 15-7 at the close of the first quarter.
However, a remarkable turnaround began in the second quarter. The Blue Devils, bolstered by a series of defensive stops, wrested control from the Bulldogs, narrowing the gap to a mere three points by halftime, the scoreboard reading 26-23.
The second half witnessed a dramatic shift, ignited by Gavin Brock's electrifying performance. Brock's three consecutive steals and fast-break layups spurred a 10-0 run for the Blue Devils, compelling the Bulldogs to regroup with a full timeout.
Reflecting on the momentum, the coach remarked, "We were building off of the last game against Ayden-Grifton. That was the best game we played all season, but I challenged the boys to see if we could play a complete game."
The final minutes were a breathtaking exchange of points, with the lead seesawing between the two teams. The Blue Devils, riding a wave of determination, edged out a 61-60 victory. Despite the Bulldogs' valiant efforts, time ran out before they could regain control, cementing a hard-fought win for the Blue Devils in this exhilarating contest.
GIRLS
DEEP RUN—The Lady Blue Devils came out tonight and made a statement. South Lenoir lady Blue Devils defeated Dixon 40-22.
They started hot and ready to play, ending the first quarter with a 13-8 lead. The Lady Blue Devils finished the first half with a 17-10 lead, allowing the Lady Bulldogs to score only 2 points in the entire second quarter.
The Lady Blue Devils were led by Alexus Haddock with 6 first-half points and Ty Midgett with 5 first-half points.
“We’ve been working on playing together and playing as a team, especially when things aren't going our way, and setting the tone on defense, and that’s what we did tonight,” said the coach Zach Pierce.
The Lady Blue Devils started the third quarter a bit slack, as if they had the game already won, until the coach was forced to call a timeout after a couple of sloppy plays and turnovers by the Lady Blue Devils. They came out of the timeout with a bit more fire, helping them maintain the lead and preventing the Lady Bulldogs from making a comeback.
