Bruins Take Down the Rams
SNOW HILL— In a heart-pounding clash that had fans on the edge of their seats, the Greene Central Rams (2-3) faced off against the Beddingfield Bruins (6-1). It was a contest that delivered thrills and drama till the final buzzer, concluding with the Bruins narrowly edging past the Rams in a 60-58 nail-biter.
From the very tip-off, Sam Avent ignited the court with his fiery performance. Avent, the driving force behind the Rams, poured in seven of Greene Central's 14 first-quarter points. Adding to the early excitement, Mez Coppage contributed with three points, securing a slender 14-12 lead for the Rams.
But the real star of the show was Sam Avent. In the second quarter, he turned up the heat, delivering a spectacular 10-point performance that left fans in awe. This sensational effort gave him a total of 17 points in the first half, and he ultimately finished with a remarkable 20 points. While Avent took center stage, three other Rams chipped in with two points each, allowing Greene Central to hold a 30-24 lead at halftime.
Head Coach Blue Edwards couldn't help but express his pride in Sam Avent's exceptional performance. He stated, "I'm super proud of Sam, and he is a true competitor."
The second half ushered in the DJ Williams show. Williams, a force to be reckoned with, lit up the scoreboard with 11 of his 13 points coming after the break. As Williams caught fire, so did the Bruins, managing to score 18 crucial points in the third quarter, narrowing the Rams' lead to just three points.
The fourth quarter unfolded with electric energy at the Ram Pen. Williams continued his hot streak, adding five more points to his tally. With just a minute and 30 seconds left on the clock, the Rams held a six-point advantage. However, the Bruins staged a remarkable comeback, tying the game with 30 seconds remaining. The tension was palpable. In a critical moment, Coach Blue Edwards called a timeout to draw up a play, but unfortunately for the Rams, the shot did not find the mark.
Looking ahead, Greene Central faces another challenging encounter on the road against Kinston (4-2). The Vikings and Rams clashed earlier this season, with the Vikings prevailing convincingly with a 63-39 victory in Snow Hill. The Rams will be hungry for redemption, but can they turn the tables, or will the Vikings secure the sweep?
