Richlands Triple Option Just Too Much for South Lenoir
DEEP RUN—Richlands traveled to Deep Run, North Carolina, to face South Lenoir in a non-conference matchup, handing them a crushing 48-0 defeat. Both teams entered the game with identical records of 1-2 overall.
South Lenoir's night got off to a rocky start with back-to-back turnovers in their own 20-yard line, both of which Richlands capitalized on. The first score came from a 19-yard touchdown pass by quarterback Caleb Simco to wide receiver Elijah Polingo. The second touchdown was a 10-yard rush by running back Christian Diaz. The scoring didn't stop there; Richlands tallied seven touchdowns in total, while their defense held South Lenoir scoreless.
South Lenoir struggled to find their rhythm on offense, with minor mistakes costing them drives throughout the game. Despite the offensive woes, the Blue Devils' defense had moments of brilliance, forcing two turnovers and making big stops.
"Open field tackling will be a big part of practice this week, and limiting their drives is something we have to do a good job of," said South Lenoir Coach Will Harrell, looking ahead to next week's first conference game of the year against Kinston.
