Rams win season opener 14-1 over Eastern Wayne

The Rams take care of business, defeating Eastern Wayne 14-1 in Snow Hill. Greene Central starts the first of three games this week on the winning side. The victory makes it three straight wins over Eastern Wayne over the past two years.

Leland Barrow and Cam Taylor led the Rams with two hits each. Taylor finished with three RBIs, and Barrow finished with three runs.

"We played well," Barrow said after the game. "We didn’t take them lightly and didn’t play down to their level; it felt good to come out and get the win"

Rams junior Braden Burress took the rubber tonight, pitching all five innings. Burress allowed three hits and struck out nine batters.

Second year head coach Ben Brann was pleased with the guys tonight as he looks forward to the season.

"I thought we came out of the gates intense and ready to play," Brann said. "We had a great pitching performance, and we hit the ball hard up and down the lineup. It was awesome to see the guys play hard and get a W in convincing fashion."

The Rams will take on Hunt High School on Wednesday and North Lenoir on Friday. Barrow knows his team has some tough opponents coming up.

"We will certainly try," when asked if the Rams will come out with the same intensity. "They are going to be a good ball team to face."
