Rams Fall to West Craven In a Dog Fight

In a nail-biting clash that had fans on the edge of their seats, the Greene Central Rams took on the West Craven Eagles in a game that will be remembered for its heart-pounding moments and outstanding individual performances. West Craven stayed undefeated in conference play winning 35-28.

James Ballard of Greene Central emerged as the game's dominant force, making his presence felt as a running back. Ballard carried the ball an impressive 21 times for a remarkable 181 yards and found the end zone twice.

The Rams' quarterback, Okie Edwards, played a solid game for the Rams stepping In on the go, completing 8 out of 13 passes for a total of 60 yards. Edwards also contributed to the ground game with 5 rushes for 18 yards and a crucial touchdown. Jaylen Wynn was a standout receiver for the Rams, recording 6 catches for 63 yards, demonstrating his reliability in the passing game.

The game was not short of dramatic turnovers, with cornerback Shy'Quan William and Jaylen Wynn both making pivotal interceptions for the Rams. However, the Rams' offense faced a moment of adversity when they were tackled into their own end zone, resulting in a safety that brought the score to 21-20 in favor of the West Craven Eagles.

On the other side, West Craven's quarterback, DJ Davis, despite being held to just 1 yard on the ground, managed to pass for 3 touchdowns out of 8-18 attempts. This dual threat from the Eagles kept the game highly competitive throughout.

The seesaw battle continued as Greene Central managed to grab a 28-27 lead, igniting the excitement of their fans. However, with only 1:45 seconds left on the clock, West Craven delivered a stunning 40-yard touchdown pass that propelled them to a 35-28 lead. The Eagles' defense sealed the victory by holding the Rams to a four-down turnover.

After the game, Greene Central High School's Jay Wilson expressed his optimism for the team's future, stating, "This team, this group, that effort, we are going to be scary for the playoffs."

Looking ahead, the Rams have one more game on their schedule against their crosstown rival, setting the stage for another intense matchup.

With this result, the Greene Central Rams now move to a 4-5 overall record and an impressive 3-2 record in the conference, keeping their playoff hopes alive. Their next challenge awaits as they face Farmville Central in what promises to be another exciting showdown on the gridiron.
