Preview of 2nd Round NCHSAA Volleyball Playoffs: North Lenoir vs. Manteo

The postseason intensifies as North Lenoir High School's volleyball team prepares to host Manteo in the second round of the NCHSAA playoffs. Coming off a decisive win against Clinton, the #3 seeded Hawks (21-1) look to extend their 17-game winning streak. Meanwhile, #14 seed Manteo (14-7) aims to build on their first-round triumph over Barlett Yancey. Here's what to expect in this high-stakes matchup.

North Lenoir's Dominant Streak

North Lenoir boasts a well-rounded team that has dominated their competition this season. One standout has been Alyssa Hatcher, whose all-around game has been vital for the Hawks. From defense to serving and play above the net, Hatcher has been a cornerstone of this squad. Lakyn Whitley has been almost the exact same player as Hatcher at times, adding to the Hawks firepower.

Then add in the Hawks length with Kaylee Kennedy, RiCayla Warren and Alivia Whitley whose powerful play at the net has consistently put points on the board for North Lenoir. Add in Maya Lynch on defense and passing, it's easy to see why the Hawks have been nearly unbeatable this season.

Manteo's Balanced Attack

While North Lenoir has the home advantage, Manteo shouldn't be underestimated. Junior Kelley Cook leads the team in multiple categories, including kills, digs, and aces. Cook's prowess as an outside hitter, amassing over 300 kills this season, adds a dynamic element to Manteo's offense.

In addition to Cook, 6'1 middle hitter Maddie Moore provides the team with a formidable presence at the net, leading the Redskins with 32 blocks. With a 6-4 record on the road this season, Manteo has demonstrated the ability to perform well in high-pressure situations away from home.

Trey Scott’s Predictions

It’s clear that both teams bring a lot to the table. North Lenoir has been virtually unstoppable at home, riding on a wave of momentum with a 17-game winning streak. On the other side, Manteo has players like Kelley Cook and Maddie Moore, who can swing the game in their favor.

However, in my prediction, the edge goes to North Lenoir. The Hawks' exceptional chemistry and depth are their trump cards in this matchup. While Manteo brings a lot of talent, North Lenoir's well-rounded team play will likely prove too much for the Redskins to handle.

Look for North Lenoir's squad to rise to the occasion, extending their winning streak and moving on to the next round of the playoffs.
