Patriots drop back-to-back games to finish Tarboro Easter Tournament 1-2
The Arendell Parrott Academy Patriots took to the field this week in an Easter Tournament at Tarboro Municipal Stadium. The Patriots played three games and finished 1-2. The Patriots bested Rocky Mount on Tuesday 16-9 before losing to Tarboro High 12-2 and Edenton (Holmes High) 8-7.
The Patriots got off to a hot start on Tuesday against the Gryphons, scoring 16 runs on 14 hits. Jojo Ferebee led the Patriots in hits with 3, while Logan Collins and Cole Watson each had 2 RBIs in the game. The Patriots sent four pitchers to the mound, with AB Daughtey getting the win. Daughtey pitched 4.2 innings, allowing 4 runs and recording 8 strikeouts in his winning performance.
On Thursday in their second game, the Patriots played the host Tarboro Vikings. The Patriots were unable to advance in the winner's bracket after their 12-2 loss to the Vikings. The game was led 2-0 after the top half of the 3rd inning before the Vikings scored 12 unanswered runs. Errors and struggling pitching led to a lot of chances for the Vikings, who scored 9 runs in the 5th inning. Cade Mixon led the Patriots at the plate, going 1-2 with 1 RBI in the loss.
Friday’s game was played against the Edenton (Holmes) Aces. Much like the game against the Vikings, the Patriots couldn't overcome errors and pitching woes in their loss. The Patriots committed 5 errors and allowed 11 walks in the loss. Even with the mistakes, the Patriots were able to get some offense brewing and made it a close game. Mixon led the team with 2 hits, including a solo home run in the 7th inning, while Jarrett Mooring recorded 2 RBIs to lead the team in the loss. “We are a young team and inexperienced in some spots, and it came to bite us this weekend…Indecisiveness and unconfidence is where we are right now. That’s something we have to fix as a team and a coaching staff,” Head Coach Robert Kravitz said after the game.
Coach Kravitz and his team will only have two days to get ready to be back on the diamond. The Patriots will play three games next week, including home games against Wayne Prep and Greenfield, with a visit to rival John Paul II squeezed between them. “You just got to move on, easier said than done, but every day has a different challenge. We just have to put one foot in front of the next and make those moves,” Kravitz said about the upcoming week.
